Is it in Lebanon? That’s the question you get asked every time you share a picture of a green space or stunning scenery. Our skeptical selves are not to blame since day after day we are experiencing how our beautiful country ages, and unfortunately, not very gracefully. We are constantly witnessing how developers are threatening Beirut and other cities’ architectural heritage by replacing corners that hold so much history with modern skyscrapers. Unfortunately, we don’t feel there is much we can do but pay close attention to our surroundings and enjoy what now seems like an ephemeral place. Continue reading “Is it in Lebanon?”
We all like to look at pretty things, and sometimes it helps when a team of experts makes sure you get the maximum dose of beauty while looking just inside one room. Yesterday, I had the chance to attend an exclusive preview and private tour of the beautiful pop-up house installation by Harper Bazaar at Mall of the Emirates. I was taken on a guided journey of the house that started with a healthy treat recipe, followed by a room full of fashion dreams and limited edition items, ending with beauty tips. It’s the season, one fashion week followed by another fashion week. The cities might change but more often than not the captions, poses and people remain all the same. As much as we love it, it can be a little bit too much sometimes. The unbearable truth: even nectar is poison if taken to excess. Instagram might be the culprit, fueled by people’s incessant need to fit in by wearing the latest “IT” anything. We all might fall into the trap occasionally. And it’s all right as long as we make a conscious effort to remember to take a break. Detox your wardrobe and your mind. Get comfy by wearing whatever makes you happy, be it a sweater and pants, or a long sequined dress.
The unbearable truth: even nectar is poison if taken to excess
Forget about Instagram, likes and the latest runway trend. You can be aware of where fashion is going, you just don’t have to always follow it. Continue reading “Taking a Break”
Just like passion and love, creativity grows on its use. Lately and though it has been quiet here on the blog, we have been exercising our creativity avidly on both personal and professional projects, some of which we can’t wait to share on the blog. Between all the work and growing, we always crave that one-day detox where we can escape to a tranquil place and recharge. We do lots of nothings and that is sometimes all you need. Where’s your detox place? Continue reading “DETOX”
Some trends are so pretty you feel they were made for Instagram. Pearl-embellished jeans seem to be one of them. It’s been a while since we put our skinny jeans to rest and have dutifully embraced wide leg pants, flares, and high-waist jeans but adding something so small and delicate as pearls definitely doubles the outfit glam. These Zara pants are probably one of their bestseller items this season, and it’s easy to see why. The pearls seem to barely be touching the denim, giving off a fairy vibe. We cannot be who we are on social media, not completely. No matter how much someone keeps on insisting that they are their true self, deep down we all know that there is always something orchestrated. The light, the angle, the words, something subconsciously has been planned, and more often than not, a caption tries to erase all doubt by insisting that it was “spur of the moment”, and it succeeds at only confirming the contrary. And little by little, the world becomes comfortable with the distorted perspective on reality. Continue reading “Superga Everyday”
Remember your mom’s faded Levi’s or old Cimarron? Remember when wearing moccasins, in all their grandeur, was not a fashion statement but a norm because ballerinas were only being worn by ballerinas? Not to forget the embroidery on jackets and jeans because plain was not always a thing. We love revisiting decades and remembering that at some point fashion was completely innovative. Continue reading “Circling Back”
They say people have the tendency to beautify things they have never actually seen. We have the tendency to fall digitally in love with a bag only to be disenchanted the minute we are done unwrapping the delivery box. We have the tendency to love social media personas we have never met, only to shake their hands and start wondering. We haphazardly use terms like bohemian and gypsy without realizing they had a different meaning long before they started appearing on glossy magazine covers. Continue reading “Bohemians, Perhaps”
It had been a long while since I last spent more than two days in my precious Ehden. City life gets smoothly on the way and you just completely forget what it was like to spend a Wednesday morning climbing the natural reserve.
It had been a longer time since I was not able to do a legitimate ponytail and once you chop off the excess you realize why your mom insisted on letting it all go before school days returned. And wearing dungarees, well that has also been a while. Continue reading “Revisiting”
At often times we find ourselves disillusioned with what our closet has to offer, so we set off with a white top and start looking for layering partners. We contemplate the pieces we haven’t worn for a while and give them a second try. And sometimes outfits like these come up!
Is it a cape? No, but it could be. Does it give you special powers? Maybe. Continue reading “Looking for Stardom”
