Habatiq E-Journey

There are things that are born out of a journey and then there are things that take you on one. Habatiq is one of those rare spaces where you can find both. It’s our latest favorite story, a story made up of beautiful stories that originate from the best markets and bazaars in different countries and end up at your doorstep, ready for their next journey. Between the old and the new, Habatiq online boutique manages to take you on an interesting oriental trip. What better ways to discover new cultures than by owning the crafts its people create? During Beirut Design Week, we were able to discover well-traveled jewels from four different places: Beirut, Cairo, Istanbul and India. We were fascinated by the travel stories that its founder, Samar Dani, so passionately shares. She personally browses distant souks and scavenges bazaars to make available an interesting selection of goods that you can get online. The mystifying combination of buying with a click beautiful things you would have never seen on a screen..

Last Tuesday in Beirut: Launch of Samsung Curve UHD TV

You know you are not a technology savvy person when your top priority while buying any electronic is its color. All the cute matching accessories get you more excited than the device itself and the way it looks is more than often the determining factor. Guilty as charged. We do spend more time checking the fabric composition of a dress than the options of a potential new phone. But at times we do stand in awe and can’t help but wonder at the next best thing such as SAMSUNG CURVE UHD TV. Last week, we attended the Launch of Samsung’s newest breakthrough at the Riviera Hotel in Beirut. The new Curve UHD TV, as its name implies, is the first curve TV in the world with ultra-high definition. It does look as fancy as it sounds. We directly fell in love with its subtle curve and intensifying image, granting everyone watching the best spot. This time we really could go on and on about its enhanced options but we’d rather save you the amateurs’ enthusiasm and link you directly to the pros. LINK

Last Saturday in Beirut: Launch of Twelve Watch in Lebanon

Here’s the thing about football:  For those involved, no explanation is necessary. For those not involved, no explanation is possible. But let’s give it a try. Last saturday was Champion’s League Final, some sort of Paris-London-Milan-New York Fashion week all combined into one night.  Even though our FC Barcelona was not qualified, there’s always a pleasure in watching a good game. It’s just like window shopping, you know you are not taking anything home but can’t help but stare. Last Saturday, we had the pleasure to discover Twelv2, a series of 32 Swiss made watches, each representing a participating country in the Football World Cup. They come in two sizes and changeable straps. The name clearly says it: “Twelfth man” in a football game—the fans! You get the best of both worlds: A trendy time piece cheering to your favorite team. Chili’s bottomless tortilla chips and frozen margaritas set the perfect tone to literally look at the time while waiting for the game to begin.

Ours is a blurry line between football and fashion. That shiver down your spine when sale has just began, that pump of blood when your team scores, the outrage you feel when you didn’t find those shoes your size, the indignation that strikes you when your team has been disqualified…These emotions date back to our Venezuela days- playing en el patio, interested in chasing a ball, scoring a goal and celebrate it while wearing mom’s heels and playing dress up. It never gets old; there is only room for more.

You can find Twelv2 Watches in Virgin Megastore and selected Jewelry shops. For more info check their Facebook page  or Official website

Camouflage Art

The whole point of camouflage is to blend in with the environment. Be it the prey or the predator, a beneficial hiding is always the goal.  Australian artist, Emma Hack, takes this animal instinct and mystically adapts it by using human body painting and photography. From landscape to complex patterns, the background serves as the perfect environment to create mesmerizing visual illusions. She colorfully challenges you to find the person hiding and once you do, you cant help but smile at such a creative mind and wonder what if we humans could have such a powerful act.

If you happen to be in New York, her  work will be showcased at the Rebecca Hossack Gallery starting today till the 12th of March 2014.

On the Wall

While walking down the streets of Beirut, you always get to see certain messages on the walls. Vandalism? Freedom of Speech? Opinions differ. The thing is you find them in all shapes and forms, some more elegantly painted than others but all nevertheless aiming at something. Intriguing visuals, political convictions, funny remarks, calls for action…Here are few that captured our attention.

Our Best Friend’s Wedding

By this time of the year, you might have already been to a dozens of weddings. The odds are a neighbor, a colleague or a childhood friend tied the knot this summer. We certainly did have our share of dinner parties but last Sunday it was different. That one friend you really call your best: our Nanunti. Fashionable as ever, she walked down the aisle, married the love of her life and danced all night! We enjoyed every single moment. We had three phones and two cameras but by the end of the night all we were left with were clapping hands. It really might be true that the best moments of your life and of those you love can’t be photographed; you are just too busy enjoying them. Here are some of the pictures we managed to take. And to the most striking bride we will say again: May this new phase of your life put your most beautiful dreams to shame. Love you.

Colors of Love

“It’s your light bulb relationship. On. Off. L (Lebanon) is the one you break up with once, twice, three times. The one you say you’ll never go back to. The one with the irreconcilable differences…You’re not sure of the future, but you really want to stay. When people ask you why you’re still in it, you’re not really sure you have an answer. All you know is that when it’s good, it’s so damn great”

This is Dyala Badran’s (It’s Deebatable blog) relationship with Lebanon. Spot-on. This is everyone-living-in-Lebanon kind of relationship. We’d love to hate it. We hate to Love it. But then we come across guys like DIHZAHYNERS, we light up a bit and say maybe we should try one last time.

They best describe themselves as a team of inspired, driven and passionate artists/designers, aimed at creating initiatives to make Beirut brighter and more beautiful, through color. You can see from the pictures below  that they have certainly succeeded in reshaping some neighborhoods in Beirut and hopefully uplifting the way people feel about their community. Love the initiative and really hope that this movement widely spreads over all of Lebanon and make us feel that there is still a chance for us to be colorfully happy with our first love.

Yanni in Jbeil

Finally! Byblos International Festival started on Sunday. Every year I wait for the list of performers to be disclosed and I was more than thrilled when they announced that worldwide superstar Yanni was opening this year’s edition.
My night started off early by walking on the stone pavements while taking pics. Arriving early always makes parking and getting to our seats more relaxing and enjoyable. There is something about Jbeil. If you have been there, you know it. And if you haven’t, I highly recommend you do. It is the oldest inhabited city in the world. Jbeil’s beautiful old souks, little cafes and pubs combined with the warm light during sunset make it seem like a magical city.

And magic did happen once the concert started. Here is where I am speechless and anything I say will fall short on what I experienced last Sunday. It is safe to say that I never really knew what Yanni was about until now. Live performances are definitely irreplaceable experiences! It was all extremely high on emotional content. Yanni managed to completely transport the audience to somewhere else.
Besides delivering an exceptional performance, Yanni praised our food and country as most of artists do when they come and visit Lebanon. A line he said did strike my mind and heart: “You live in a piece of heaven”… I will leave you with some of the pics and the hope that this piece of heaven can withstand any test and find strength from amazing music and vibrant events like this.
