My First Mother’s Day

If who we are and who we become partly depends on whom we love, then becoming a mother ought to be one of the most transformative experiences life has to offer.

Welcoming an unfolding new life into your existence changes you. We hear about it all the time: a mother’s unconditional love, the one that still gives when she is too tired to give. We might even have a slight idea but nothing really prepares you for it. It’s like seeing the ocean for the first time. No matter how much you read about its striking blue, what others recount of its invigorating scent, and how movies depict its waves, nothing will come close to feeling the warm sand between your feet as you plunge into the crystal waters.

There are few moments in life where you can track the exact time your life changes forever and giving birth to our beautiful baby boy will certainly always be one of them.

On February 12, 2018 at 4:11 pm I was fortunate enough to become a mother to a beautiful mini human: Carl. There are few moments in life where you can track the exact time your life changes forever and giving birth to our beautiful baby boy will certainly always be one of them.

They say your first-born grabs your heart and never really lets it go. Grabs, steals, touches, overwhelms… any verb preceded by the heart does not really come close to defining the moment your motherhood materializes as you are handed a trembling bundle of flesh and love.

Will I ever get over the fact that I together with the person I have loved the most intensely and for the longest time created a life, a little human we get to call our own? Maybe. Will I ever be able to explain how it really feels? Never
